About Me

Hi! My name is Jessi and I’m a human-computer interaction researcher. My current research interests are in the design of immersive learning experiences in mixed reality.

As of Fall 2020, I am a PhD student in the Computer Science department at the University of Toronto, supervised by Dr. Daniel Wigdor. I completed my MSc in Computer Science at the University of Calgary, supervised by Dr. Ehud Sharlin and Dr. Anthony Tang.

While working toward my MSc, I explored multi-perspective video interfaces for learning maker skills. In the fall of 2018 I interned as a research assistant to Dr. Fraser Anderson at Autodesk Research and Dr. Sowmya Somanath at OCAD University (now at the University of Victoria) in Toronto, Canada. Our research explored how we can support novice makers’ situation awareness to help them succeed in their projects. I have also dabbled in human-robot interaction research.

I received my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Calgary in 2017. Before I began studying computer science, I earned a diploma in journalism from SAIT Polytechnic in Calgary which lead me to a brief career writing and editing obituaries.
